Are you aged 20-26 and a gay man or man who has sex with other men (MSM)?
Did you know that HPV is a very common sexually transmitted infection? It is estimated that nearly 80% of the population will be infected with at least one type of HPV at some time in their lives. There is an increased risk of infection with the more sexual partners you have.
HPV vaccination is recommended for MSM who have not previously been vaccinated with 3 doses of HPV vaccine as 90% of anal cancer is caused by HPV.
The vaccine is called Gardasil and has been developed to protect against the two high-risk HPV types (types 16 and 18), which cause most HPV-related cancers. It also protects against two low-risk HPV types (types 6 and 11), which are the most common cause of genital warts.
