Teaching It Like It Is – FLO: Relationships & Sexual Health Education for working with young people in alternative education settings

This 2-day interactive course is for all educators working with young people in alternative education settings (e.g. Flexible Learning Options (FLO) providers, Independent Learning Centres, Better Behaviour Centres etc.)

Course Outline

This course provides opportunities for teachers, SSOs, youth workers and case workers to learn how to explore R&SH topics with students in their unique contexts. Discussions are driven by the participants with opportunities to ask questions and share experiences. The course is built around a variety of activities that can be modified for use with individuals and small groups and is designed to increase content specific knowledge, improve implementation skills and reflect on personal attitudes and values.

 

Topics include:

  • respecting difference
  • puberty/reproduction
  • relationships
  • impact of gendered stereotypes/expectations
  • media and technology (including pornography and sexting)
  • gender identity and diversity
  • diversity of sexual attraction
  • consent
  • safer sex

Time: 8:30am – 4:30pm

Course Location: SHINE SA, 64c Woodville Road, Woodville

Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement and recognition of training and development hours with reference to relevant Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
