The FRESH course

SHine SA offers a course for workers in the Community Services and Health sectors working in the areas of Disability, Youth Work, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Men’s and Women’s Health.

The FRESH course has a flexible design which enables participants from the same occupational groups to share time together exploring client issues and community needs.

The FRESH course provides a space for workers to explore their own attitudes towards sexual health and relationships education in the belief that workers will then be better placed to support their clients to make sense of their sexual world.

The course aims to provide workers with an increased level of knowledge and confidence when working with clients and colleagues in the area of sexual and reproductive health and relationships education. Many course activities and resources can be adapted for use with one-to-one clients and community groups.

FRESH Courses in 2012 will have a fixed-date program and SHine SA’s FRESH coordinators will build program content around the needs of the participants.

Topics will include: Sexuality & Sexual Health; Sex & the Law; Gender & Power; Sexual Diversity; Anatomy & Physiology; Contraception; Pregnancy Options; Sexual Violence; Sexual Pleasure; Safer Sex; Sexually Transmitted Infections; Providing sexual health information to clients; Planning, delivering and reviewing sexual health education programs.

Those participants who choose an assessment pathway will also enhance their skills in addressing clients’ needs through program development, delivery and evaluation and also gain a nationally recognised competency. Please read the Information Handbook to explore the options.
